Hey girls! You know what’s been a total game-changer for me lately? It’s these Wellness Wednesdays I’ve been doing, focusing on self-care practices for everyday life. And let me tell you, it’s been nothing short of amazing!
I used to be that person who would just rush through the day, constantly on the go, taking care of everyone and everything else but myself. I’d wake up, hustle to get ready, run out the door to work, deal with all the stress there, come home exhausted, and then just collapse on the couch. Rinse and repeat. Sound familiar?
But then I realized that I was running on empty. I was moody, tired all the time, and just not feeling like myself. That’s when I decided it was time for a change. And that’s where Wellness Wednesdays came in.
On my first Wellness Wednesday, I didn’t really know what to expect. I just knew I wanted to do something nice for myself. So I started my day a bit slower. Instead of jumping out of bed and immediately checking my phone (which, let’s be honest, is usually the first thing we do, right?), I just lay there for a few minutes, taking in the peace and quiet. I focused on my breathing, just noticing how my chest rose and fell. It was such a simple thing, but it already made me feel more centered.
Then I got up and made myself a really nice cup of coffee. Not just the usual quick pour into a travel mug on my way out, but I took the time to grind the beans, smell the fresh aroma, and savor that first sip while sitting at my kitchen table. I even put on some soft music in the background. It was like creating a little oasis of calm in the middle of my usually chaotic morning.
After that, I decided to do a little bit of stretching. I’m not talking about a full-on intense yoga session (although that can be great too!), but just some simple stretches to wake up my muscles. I reached up to the ceiling, bent down to touch my toes, and twisted my body gently from side to side. It felt so good to get the blood flowing and loosen up those tight spots from sleeping.
Throughout the day, I made a conscious effort to take breaks. Instead of powering through my work non-stop, I set a timer on my phone to remind myself to step away every hour or so. I’d get up, walk around the room, look out the window at the sky or the trees, and just give my eyes and mind a rest. And you know what? I actually got more done! Because I wasn’t burning out and losing focus.
For lunch, I didn’t just grab something quick and easy. I actually took the time to prepare a nice, healthy meal. I chopped up some fresh veggies, made a delicious salad with a homemade dressing, and added some grilled chicken for protein. Sitting down to eat it slowly, really tasting each bite, was such a treat. It made me realize how often I’d been scarfing down food without even really enjoying it.
In the afternoon, I took a long, hot bath. I added some of my favorite bath salts that smelled like lavender and eucalyptus. The warm water enveloped me, and the soothing scents filled the air. I just lay there, letting the stress of the day melt away. I even put on a face mask while I was in there. It was like my own little spa day in the middle of the week!
And when it came to the evening, I didn’t turn on the TV and zone out like I usually would. Instead, I picked up a book that I’d been meaning to read for ages. I curled up on the couch with a cozy blanket and got lost in the pages. It was so relaxing and a great way to wind down before bed.
Since starting these Wellness Wednesdays, I’ve noticed such a big difference in myself. I’m in a better mood, I have more energy, and I feel more connected to myself. It’s not about being selfish or neglecting your responsibilities. It’s about taking the time to refill your own cup so that you can be there for others even better.
I’ve also learned that self-care doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming. It can be as simple as taking a few extra minutes in the morning to breathe or making a nice cup of tea in the afternoon. It’s about the intention behind it, about making yourself a priority.
So, if you’re feeling run down, stressed out, or just not like yourself, I highly recommend starting your own Wellness Wednesdays. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just do what feels good for you. Maybe it’s painting your nails, going for a walk in the park, or listening to your favorite podcast. The important thing is to make that time for yourself. Because you deserve it, girl! Let’s all take care of ourselves and show up in the world as our best selves. 💪
