Hey girls! Today I wanna spill the tea on something that’s been a total game-changer for me – career counseling! I used to be all kinds of confused about my professional path. I had these big dreams but no clue how to actually make them happen. It was like I was wandering in a foggy forest, not knowing which way to go. π©
Then I decided to give career counseling a shot. And let me tell you, it was like finding a flashlight in that dark forest! The counselor I worked with was amazing. She didn’t just tell me what to do, but she really listened to me. She let me rant and rave about all my hopes and fears and insecurities when it came to my career. And you know what? Just having someone listen like that was so freeing.
We started by digging deep into what I was passionate about. I mean, we’re not just working to pay the bills, right? We want to do something that makes our hearts sing! For me, it was always about helping people in some way. But I wasn’t sure how to turn that into a viable career. That’s where the counselor came in. She helped me explore different options that were related to my passion for helping others.
She also made me realize that I had a whole bunch of skills that I wasn’t even giving myself credit for. I was so focused on what I thought I lacked that I didn’t see all the amazing things I could already do. It was like she had this magic mirror that showed me my true potential. And once I saw it, I was like, “Whoa, I can actually do this!”
Another thing that was super helpful was when she had me do some assessments. Not those boring, stuffy ones that make you feel like you’re back in school taking a test you didn’t study for. These were actually kind of fun! They helped me understand my personality type better and how that related to different work environments. For example, I found out that I thrive in a collaborative setting where I can bounce ideas off of others. Knowing that helped me narrow down the types of jobs and companies that would be a good fit for me.
But it wasn’t all just about finding the perfect job. Career counseling also helped me with things like building my confidence. I used to be so shy about putting myself out there and going for what I wanted. I was always afraid of rejection. But my counselor gave me tips and tricks on how to boost my self-esteem and how to handle those inevitable nos that come along the way. She told me that every rejection is just a step closer to a yes from the right opportunity. And you know what? That mindset shift has been huge for me.
Now, I’m on a path that I’m actually excited about. I’m working towards a career that combines my passion for helping people with my skills and strengths. And it all started with that decision to seek out career counseling.
So if you’re out there feeling lost or unsure about your professional future, don’t be afraid to give career counseling a try! It might just be the thing that unlocks the door to your dream career. Remember, you’re amazing and you deserve to do work that makes you happy and fulfilled! π
